Day 1 :
- Arrival in Antigua - Arrive in Antigua and check into your accommodation. Spend the afternoon exploring the cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and vibrant markets of Antigua. Visit the Central Park and surrounding landmarks like the Cathedral of San Jose. Enjoy dinner at one of Antigua's many restaurants, sampling traditional Guatemalan cuisine.
Day 2 :
- Cultural Exploration of Antigua. - Take a guided walking tour of Antigua to learn about its history and architecture. Visit historical sites such as the Santa Catalina Arch, La Merced Church, and San Francisco Church. Explore the Jade Museum to discover the significance of jade in Mayan culture. Relax in a local cafe or courtyard and enjoy some coffee or tea.
Day 3 :
- Volcano Hike - Embark on a hike up one of the nearby volcanoes, such as Pacaya or Acatenango. Enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and, if hiking Pacaya, witness volcanic activity. Return to Antigua in the afternoon and relax with a massage or spa treatment.
Day 4 :
- Day Trip to Chichicastenango - Take a day trip to the indigenous market town of Chichicastenango. Explore the bustling market, known for its handicrafts, textiles, and local produce. Visit the Church of Santo Tomas and witness Mayan rituals blending with Catholicism. Return to Antigua in the evening and dine at a cozy restaurant.
Day 5 :
- Cooking Class and Farewell to Antigua - Participate in a cooking class to learn how to prepare traditional Guatemalan dishes. Visit a local market with your instructor to select fresh ingredients. Prepare and enjoy a delicious lunch together. Spend your last evening in Antigua wandering the streets, soaking in the ambiance, and perhaps picking up some last-minute souvenirs.
Day 6 :
- Travel to Lake Atitlan - Travel from Antigua to Lake Atitlan, approximately a 3-4 hour journey by road. Arrive in one of the lakeside towns such as Panajachel, San Pedro La Laguna, or San Marcos La Laguna. Check into your accommodation and enjoy the views of the lake.
Day 7 :
- Exploring Lake Atitlan - Take a boat tour of Lake Atitlan, visiting villages like Santiago Atitlan, San Juan La Laguna, and Santa Cruz La Laguna. Explore the local markets and artisan cooperatives, known for their vibrant textiles and crafts. Enjoy lunch at a lakeside restaurant and spend the afternoon relaxing by the water.
Day 8 :
- Outdoor Adventure - Choose from a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, or zip-lining. Hike to one of the nearby viewpoints for stunning panoramas of the lake and surrounding volcanoes. Visit the nature reserve of Reserva Natural Atitlan for hiking trails and birdwatching. Return to your accommodation in the evening and relax.
Day 9 :
- Cultural Immersion - Take a cultural workshop, such as pottery-making or weaving, to learn about traditional Mayan crafts. Visit a coffee plantation to learn about the coffee-making process and sample some local brews. Explore the town of Panajachel for shopping, dining, and cultural experiences. Enjoy a farewell dinner at a lakeside restaurant, savoring the flavors of Guatemala.
Day 10 :
- Departure - Enjoy a leisurely breakfast overlooking the lake. Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time to relax or explore further. Depart from Lake Atitlan for your onward journey back to Guatamala city to catch your flight home.
